Highlights
France
Champagne Bollinger is one of the most respected names in Champagne. Founded in 1829, this familyowned house in Aÿ, France, is renowned for its
craftsmanship, tradition, and unwavering commitment to quality. Over the years, Bollinger’s archives became rich with documents, records, and technical files, but
these were scattered across different locations. These archives chronicle not only the house’s own journey but also the evolution of Champagne itself. As time went on, preserving and accessing this wealth of history became increasingly challenging.
For Bollinger, the archives are much more than paperwork. They hold the story of the vineyards, the cellars, the wines, and the family behind the name. The collection includes everything from technical production documentation, which allows the cellar master to trace the composition of every wine since the mid-19th century, to legal and commercial records, and even personal family correspondence. Historian Dr. Claire Desbois-Thibault explains that this collection is essential, not only for understanding Bollinger’s journey, but also for appreciating the broader history of Champagne.
To bring all these treasures together, Bollinger partnered with Bruynzeel Storage Systems. The solution was a custom-designed archive featuring Compactus® XTR Mobile Shelving, operated by hand, combined with Sysco® static shelving. This mobile shelving system allows Bollinger to maximize space, keep records easily accessible, “With Bruynzeel’s help,
our archives are now preserved and accessible for everyone who cares about Bollinger’s legacy.” Visit our Archive page for more information and ensure optimal conservation conditions. The new archive is thoughtfully divided into two zones. One area is dedicated to daily administrative files, while the other holds historical documents that trace the house’s roots. Geoffrey Keller, Works Manager Assistant, explains that bringing the archives together with Bruynzeel’s mobile shelving has made it possible to preserve and organize everything, while keeping the house’s history alive and close at hand.
Sustainability is at the heart of Bollinger’s philosophy, from vineyard management to winemaking and beyond. The archive’s shelving is built with Bruynzeel GreenSteel®,
reflecting a shared commitment to environmental responsibility. For Bollinger, preserving archives means more than storing paper. It is about protecting heritage, nurturing roots, and providing a reference for shaping the future.
The new archive is much more than a storage room. It is a living space where history is accessible, inspiration flows, and the story of Champagne Bollinger continues to unfold. For cellar masters and historians alike, the technical documentation and family records offer a vital link to the past. By keeping everything together, the legacy remains intact and ready to inspire future generations.
The new archive stands as a testament to Bollinger’s dedication to heritage and sustainability. By bringing together centuries of history in a single, thoughtfully designed space, Bollinger ensures that its legacy remains accessible, protected, and ready to inspire. Supported by Bruynzeel GreenSteel®, this achievement reflects a commitment not only to the past, but also to a responsible future. The archive is a source of pride for everyone at Bollinger and for all who value the story behind each bottle.
