The new construction of “Campus Loefflerstraße” of the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University of Greifswald provides space for lecture halls, the department library and a canteen. The library is the central library of Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University and houses approximately 3.1 million books and magazines. The library has existed since 1604 and is one of the oldest university libraries in Germany. The new building has 5 floors and was designed by Architekturbüro Eßmann Gärtner Nieper from Leipzig. The building was designed and built in a record time of two years.
With the arrival of the new library, which is located on Loefflerstraße in Greifswald, the working conditions of employees and visitors have been drastically improved. The spaces are now set up in such a way that work can be done in a calm and concentrated manner. 250 work and reading places with 12 individual quiet rooms and 5 meeting rooms are available 24 hours a day from Monday to Friday every week. Thanks to this new, central library, the various library locations could be reduced to four locations.
Bruynzeel won a European tender and was therefore given the opportunity to supply the library shelving for the new library. The theme of the library is “knowledge storage”. By efficiently equipping the library with ceiling-high library shelving, the library now has 12,000 linear meters of shelves to store books and magazines. This allows the library to offer its immense collection, which is full of knowledge, to students.
“The planning and furnishing of the new library went successfully. Bruynzeel made drawings that were very useful during the construction, delivery and relocation. The collaboration was pleasant and our students are now enjoying all the possibilities of our modern new library. “

The library acts as a social meeting point. A dynamic and inspiring place that invites you to acquire and share knowledge offline and online.
The library shelving is an important part of the design of this modern library. Apart from the practical storage of various media, they determine the appearance of the room. To maintain the open, light appearance of the building, the library shelves are fitted with ash wood retention walls. The collection is also efficiently and conveniently stored with accessories.
